How a DC woman went from aspiring film director to award-winning pastry chef

Georgetown pastry chef Isabel Coss wasn’t expecting to learn of national recognition when Food & Wine recently called her and said they wanted to ask her about Jello. She wanted to ensure she’d be prepared the way she always had for similar conversations: equipped with answers to any potential questions that could arise. So, the night before the interview, she made sure she knew everything there is to know about Jello — what temperature it comes in and what year it was invented, among other things.Despite the preparation, the organization wasn’t calling to interview her about gelatin, but instead to tell her she’d been selected as one of Food & Wine’s best new chef’s in America this year, a list that includes 11 people from 10 restaurants across the country.“I’m so humbled,” Coss said. “I still can’t believe it. Nearing the Light at the End of the Tunnel

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 21:08:08 GMT

South Florida has been stuck in a soggy and dreary setup all week long but there are some changes ahead by next week. We just have to get through additional storms this weekend first. It’s all because of deep, tropical moisture flowing into Florida while a weak, slow-moving front treks south across the state. As this front continues to approach and eventually passes through Sunday night, this will keep rain chances elevated and our pattern unsettled.Today, expect sunshine in the morning with a spotty shower, then scattered showers and storms during the afternoon, especially across inland locations. This sunshine paired with a light wind should help heat up temperatures quickly to around 90F by the early-afternoon. Like yesterday, isolated instances of flooding and strong storms will remain possible. On Sunday, as the front gets even closer, this will increase rain chances come more to a 60% chance with scattered, anytime showers and thunderstorms expected. Best chance for rain o...

Scott Hall, a Georgia bail bondsman, is the first person to reach a plea deal in the case, in which Trump and 18 others were charged with racketeering conspiracy for their efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.Hall, 59, who was involved in a breach of election equipment, pleaded guilty Friday in Atlanta to five counts of conspiring to commit intentional interference with performance of election duties. The plea deal included an agreement to a sentence of five years of probation, a $5,000 fine and a letter of apology to the state.Part of the plea deal requires Hall to testify against others at future trials or hearings of “any co-defendants” in the election racketeering case. The felony charges against Hall were dropped as part of the agreement.Trump was not mentioned by name during Hall’s plea hearing, but a Fulton County prosecutor did men...
