Chad Green poised to make Blue Jays debut after rehabbing from Tommy John surgery

Chad Green was reinstated from the 60-day injured list by the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday.The reliever joined the Blue Jays for the first time after undergoing Tommy John surgery with the New York Yankees last season.After seven years with the Yankees, the 32-year-old Green signed an $8.5 million, two-year contract with Toronto in the offseason. He was 33-22 with a 3.17 ERA and 11 saves in 272 major league games, including 24 starts.Green had a 1.46 ERA in 12 1/3 innings of work between Class A Dunedin and Triple-A Buffalo this season. The right-hander struck out 15 and walked one.Toronto also recalled infielder Spencer Horwitz from Buffalo before Friday night’s game at Colorado. A man shot two people inside a Southwest Miami-Dade home before he turned the gun on himself, police said, sending the surviving victims to the hospital and leaving the residents of a quiet neighborhood on edge.Miami-Dade Police and Fire Rescue units responded to reports of a shooting at a home in the area of Southwest 165th Terrace and 99th Avenue in the Palmetto Estates neighborhood, shortly before 4:30 p.m., Friday. The state Department of Public Health has delayed the closure of the maternity ward at the Leominster campus UMass Memorial Health Alliance-Clinton Hospital, finding the hospital’s plan to close was insufficient. The maternity ward has been scheduled to close on Sept. 23. In a letter this week detailing its finding, though, state officials asked for a complete plan and a new closure date later than the 23rd, writing “Based upon the information provided to date, the Department does not believe the Hospital’s closure plan is adequate.” “It’s a small victory,” said Tara Corey, a registered nurse in the maternity unit in Leominster. Corey and her coworkers have been among those raising concerns about the proposed closure. Speaking this week, Corey said this latest move is a step in the right direction.
